Last week was the big competition for my senior project, the Formula SAE race car. We went up to Michigan International Speedway to compete against more than 120 other schools from around the world. We performed strongly, placing 15th in the design competition, 5th in the marketing presentation, and with Best-Ever times for CU in skidpad and acceleration. We also did well in the autocross event, and we finished the endurance event, which was a major goal for us. I am very proud of what we have accomplished, and I think that we have put next year's team in a strong position to continue our success.
Another notable success for this year was the way we presented ourselves as a team. I think that we were extremely prepared, and that preparation showed itself with a fairly low-stress weekend. We didn't have to run around trying to make it to each event or to make the car work properly. All-in-all, I think the team conducted itself similarly to the best teams at the competition.
I am also very happy to be finished with this project. I has occupied most of my life for the last year or so, including many late nights and weekends. It has been extremely rewarding, but I look forward to having a bit more free time in the next few weeks... At least until work starts!!
